There and back again

The inception of every fest begins with a random, sporadic idea. It maybe the world’s most novel reaping, or it just might be a time and tried boring routine. But the fact remains, nothing can be worked on unless a direction is given, and for Spring Spree ’11 that was what I like to call the “Renaissance Spark”. The beftting tribute paid to the 25th edition of something a lot of us personally came to cherish over these 4 years.

A complete remodelling of the Spree Design. Credibility never really wasn’t our forte and gaining some would have been one huge leap for Spree-kind. Everything started off as usually, mellow and scheduled. Events and lists and more excel sheets and then we gradutaed onto Powerpoint presentations and then on-stage gigs and what not. Marketing Spree in a technical college comes with its fair shares of raised eyebrows and sarcastic humour too. So what better way to beat the irony, if not by publicising Spring Spree- bang in the middle of our technical fest. The impact was well dealt. Our Renaissance was beginning to affect.

It was sincerely a deepest effort from our side to get the mob swaying, because we had indeed realised that the mob rules the roost and if that much is impressed by our slapstick humour and unbashed fooling around, we gain ground like none other. So ended the premise of Project Renaissance.

Soon the wheels were in motion, everyone was running around and doing things necessary, unnecessary, writing blogs, making posters, striking deals, un-striking deals, haggling, calculating…in the end slowly realising the big picture that was to be finally Spring Spree ’11.

Flash-Forwarding nearly a month to Spree, there were roadblocks. The Gods do not look on you too kindly when you bring a Pakistani band down on Indian soil, and the bureaucrats back there made sure our life was one visa-awaiting nightmare. Moreover, the tensions in and around our dear town of Warangal, had us almost derailed from Project Spree. After some real show of support from a lot of people, Spree rebooted in all its glory. But no, the visas had yet not arrived.

We hit snags, a lot of them, some of them at the most unexpected times, but we made it through in the end. And come March 11, 12 and 13…Spree ’11 created Renaissance and on the road to it broke a world record, had a National award winner perform, brought Paintball to Warangal for the first time and  re- incarnated the Hip-Hop movement in the heart of Warangal.

Yes, we are still sad Noori didnt make it, such things don’t go away easily, but as the Spree Tee proclaims out loud “Lite Teesko”, we aren’t done yet. There will be more Sprees, given the world doesnt end in 2012 and Noori is always welcome. Till then, this is Team Spree ’11 signing off.

Spring Spree is not about staying in your comfort zones and organising a cultural get-together. Today we celebrate our never say die spirit by daring to dream and then having the audacity to realise them.

Relive. Rewind and Renaissance ever more.
